When did you start riding trials?

How did you get into riding trials?

What was your first trials bike?

At 15 years old I had a Garelli Tiger Cub, then a Suzuki trail bike which I spent all weekend on at the ‘red hills’ next to home just north of Newcastle, with numerous other bikers. Then I was bought a Bultaco 250, can’t remember the exact model, but it was prior to the red plastic tanks. My dad, who at 87 still rides his bike to sections to observe, had ridden trials on his BSA b32, as he says, “back when you rode the bike to the trial, took the lights off, rode, then put the lights back on and rode it home.” So off we went to venues such as Hedley Drift near Prudhoe and Mickley Junction, Stocksfield. Moved onto a 240 Fantic before hanging up the old Dunlop trials wellies at 20 due to working most weekends.

What achievements have you had in trials?

I once and only once, won an ashtray with a Seaton Deleval badge on, great prize for a 16 year old! No need for trophy cabinet in our house.

Who do you look up to/admire in the trials world?

As to who I admire / look up to, anyone who beats me, in other words pretty much anyone who rides!

Which venue is your favourite to ride?

Is there a major trials event that you enjoy?

Returned to trials 4 years ago. My favourite venue now has to be Edmondbyers for the BAA classic.

Is there a trials event or venue you have not ridden which you would really like to ride?

I must make time to head to Scotland for the Kinlochleven Trial.

What is your favourite memory from trials riding?

Favourite memory has to be Rob Shepherd on the 360 Honda, everyone rushing to sections in the Scott to hear the 4 stroke.
